Windows 10 and Windows 8 already come up with an inbuilt recovery tool. If you don’t have access to it then you can also trigger the same process using a bootable CD or a pen drive with Windows installation file. For getting into the recovery environment you need to follow these steps-

  • Shutdown your PC and repeatedly press the power button during the boot process until you enter the recovery mode. All you need is to abruptly shut down your PC.
  • Once you enter the recovery section of the boot manager, look for Troubleshoot option.
  • In the Troubleshoot section click on Advance Options and then Command Prompt.
  • In the Command Prompt window type
    sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

    and press enter to run the command.

  • The above command will get you rid of almost all the errors but still few errors would be left so you need to run one more command.
  • Again type the command
    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

    and press enter.

  • Reboot your PC after closing the Command Prompt window.

There is a possibility that the “SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED” Error in Windows 10 may appear if any particular driver has stopped working properly or has crashed. So you can follow the following steps to terminate this issue –

  • First of all, you need to find a driver which has crashed in your PC. So install a freeware called WhoCrashed.
  • Now you need to run the software to find out which driver is causing the problem.
  • Once the analysis is completed you will see an Output Screen in which all event logs will be displayed along with the faulty driver details and path.
  • Note the name of the driver somewhere.

In case this utility fails to find out the crashed driver, you can follow below steps as well as an alternative-

  • Reboot your PC and keep on pressing the F8 key to enter the Safe Mode.

cd windows\system32\drivers

and press Enter key to run the command.
